Bharatanatyam, Svetlana Kuzmina
Among the fine arts, dance, or natya is considered as one of the most popular and highly sacred forms of worshipping the Lord. Dance is actually a mirror which visualizes sound into visual representation. It is also an eternal bliss and the treasure house of the physical, intellectual and spiritual knowledge.
Svetlana learn Bharatanatyam from her Guru Ji from Dharani school of performing arts, Kochi, Kerala and also takes some courses in Chennai, the “capital” of Bharatanatyam, from where this beautiful dance is originated.
“The dancer who does not have some idea of sculpture, the dancer who does not have a sense of painting and of the music cannot really be a great dancer because the same spirit that is embodied in dancing is embodied in painting and in the other arts.” – RUKMINI DEVI

She inspires us to embody freedom within and unity out into the world. Michelle has been teaching yoga since 2011 and teaches in a more western style, creating an enlivening and invigorating practice. Now for Michelle, yoga is the rock in her life that beautifully compliments her passion of dance. She has been a dancer for her entire life, but it wasn’t until the last 7 years that she was able to truly transform her life through the power of ecstatic dance. Now she facilitates this free form, conscious dance practice, where all walks of life come together to fully express themselves in a nonjudgmental space. She loves bringing people together to dance and ignite the discovery of what truly is.
YOGA AND ECSTATIC DANCE WORKSHOP
This workshop will be a fun blend of yoga and ecstatic dance. We will begin with an interactive yoga class where we will move around in a playful way while integrating powerful asanas. Then, we will transition into the opening ceremony for our ecstatic dance journey. Here I will go over the basic ground rules of ecstatic dance and we will share our intentions. Then we will begin our non-verbal, free flowing, meditative and ecstatic dance! The music will take us on a journey for about 1.5 hours. Here we allow ourselves to feel and dance out any emotions that arise. We feel the earth, reach for the sky, breathe deep and simply be here now. The music creates a wave where our dance builds up over time and then settles back into stillness. Finally, we will gather once more for our closing ceremony where there will be an opportunity to share words about our experience and send out our prayers to the world. I hope to see you all there on the magical dance floor

For the past three years, she has been supplementing her studies with Usha Devi by studying for two months out of each year at Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI).
